LinuxFEST '00

LinuxFEST '00 was held in Belgrade's "Dom Omladine" from 15th to 17th December 2000. The event was opened at noon in front of 450 strong audience including prominent Yugoslav IT professionals and University profs. The keynote was made by Dusan Starcevic PhD (Faculty of Organisational Sciences) and introductory lecture was held by Bojan Jovanovic PhD (FON).

During the first two days visitors had a chance to attend two very interesting presentations: SuSE Linux and Caldera Linux and a lecture on Open Source movement and proposed business model.

The success of LinuxFEST '00 is to a large extent thanks to many Linux related international companies and organisations that provided piles of marketing materials such as brochures and CDs. Some of them are: Caldera systems, SuSE, Debia, Mission Critical Linux, RedHat, Best Linux, Turbo Linux, etc.

LinuxFEST '00 had an international character. We had the honour to be visited by representatives of the Linux Users Group of Slovenia, a member of Debian development team from Hungary and by Mr Danit Erlich, marketing manager of Allot which bases its worldwide success on Linux supported products.

Third day of the event was devoted to the first scientific Linux conference to be held in Yugoslavia. 12 papers were presented and printed in the proceedings.

During the whole duration of LinuxFEST people wanting to have Linux installed on their computers or existing users having hardware/software problems could have brought their PCs and resolved any issues with help of experienced staff.

And numbers: LinuxFEST '00 had more than 3000 visitors and about 30 Linux machines were installed.
